CERA is the world's first truly secure temperature sensor.
Temperature readings are secure from the moment of measurement to remote readout.

The Problem

In these turbulent times as you move into a zero-trust world where everything is connected, it is vital that you can rely on the temperature data that you use to monitor, manage, and control your systems, processes, and smart contracts.

With enough incentive all software can be hacked, and all hardware cloned. If they can hack your temperature sensor, they can confuse, degrade or destroy your data, products and equipment.

The cost of failure may be far more than the physical damage or data loss. It can lead to a world of woe including lawsuits, governmental non-compliance, reputational damage, increased insurance premiums, injury, or even death.

Regulators and customers demand robust security. (California SB-327, Europe ETSI, GDPR, UK IoT)

The CERA Solution

CERA uses physical characteristics of the device BOTH to measure temperature accurately AND immediately secure it with a 128-bit key.

You can say that the security key IS the temperature sensor, and the sensor IS the key.
Thus, any anomaly is instantly detectable.

Not even the manufacturer could clone a CERA device.
Every one is as unique as a fingerprint.

CERA creates certainty, cuts costs

If CERA is transmitting temperature now you know the readings are accurate.
Readings can’t be dismissed as ‘wrong’ or ‘faulty’.

CERA can:
  • Deliver irrefutable proof (audit trail)
  • Reduce insurance premiums
  • Eliminate unnecessary maintenance checks to verify/replace a sensor.
  • Provide real-time alerts of temperature change

Is CERA scalable?

We asked University of Leuven (COSIC) to build stochastic models to help us with the answer.

predictions
  • No two CERA devices will ever produce the same key
  • If a CERA device were queried a billion times it will always produce the same key

How secure is CERA?

  • CERA generates a unique 128-bit 'key'
  • When power is off, the key disappears.
  • Can be shipped with an indicator to prove nobody has a copy of the key
  • Can include a tamper-proof coating

Points of difference

How does CERA compare with other market solutions? Today most keys are stored in Flash. This is inherently insecure as the key can be attacked when power is off. More robust devices take an insecure temperature sensor, and wrap security around it. This creates an attack vector, that CERA eliminates.
  • CERA is secure ID for all devices (SRAM not required)
  • CERA is the only PUF that can securely sign temperature readings

Partner with Us

Our current focus is testing CERA on a PCB:
  • in 2022 we seek partners to design, test, and manufacture a daughterboard version which will get power and communications from the motherboard.
  • The next steps will be to shrink CERA onto an ASIC. By bringing cost and form factor down, new markets open up, such as smart meters, medical devices, cold-chain pallets
We seek partners to work with us on the next level of development.
Please contact us for confidential discussions if you are an:
  • Active or Passive Component Manufacturer
  • Temperature Sensor Manufacturer
  • Developer seeking 'plug and play' security solutions
  • In any of the industries above
